Cho Sun-Young

Kim Jung-Ran
Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between sensory processing ability and attention deficit hyperactivity of school-age children through teachers using the sensory processing evaluation tool developed in Korea.

Methods : The design of this study is a correlation analysis study on two variables: sensory processing ability and attention deficit/hyperactivity. The subjects of this study were 294 students in grades 1 to 6 of general elementary schools, among which 206 general children and 88 children suspected of attention deficit/hyperactivity. The child s homeroom teacher surveyed the child s sensory processing evaluation tool and the Korean version of the ADHD evaluation scale for teachers. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted on the results of the questionnaire to find out the correlation.

Results : As a result of this study, the correlation coefficient between the total score of the sensory processing evaluation tool for schools in Korea and the total score of the K-ARS was .88 (p<.01), showing a statistically significant correlation, and the correlation coefficient between sub-domains was also. 206 ¡.904 (p<.01) showed a statistically significant correlation.

Conclusion : This study is judged to be of significant value in that it examined the difficulties of attention deficit and hyperactivity, which are commonly observed in general school children, in terms of sensory processing, and suggested the importance of evaluation.
